Q. I’ve seen a company claim to be able to offer to implement and certify my QMS/ EMS within 30 days, all at a very low price. Is this too good to be true?
A. In all likelihood, yes. There are a number of companies offering a service whereby they will produce a quality manual, at the same time certifying the system and issuing the certificate at the end of the process. However you need to check carefully that the certification body is certified by UKAS (the United Kingdom Accreditation Service), or the equivalent national accreditation body for the country in which you are based. These can be found on the International Accreditation Forum website - see the links on the right of this page.
There is nothing stopping a certification body using an ‘unofficial’ accreditation body, however certificates awarded by such bodies are generally viewed with suspicion and you may find your customers pressurising you to change to a recognised accredited certification body.
Q. Can EaglePeak Consulting Ltd. award certificates?
A. No. EPC’s function is to help with the implementation of the system, through gap analysis, document drafting, training etc. The certification body’s function is to independently assess the system for consistent and effective implementation. However EaglePeak Consulting Ltd can of course assist in the selection of a certification body with the appropriate accreditation to cover your proposed scope of registration. Some schemes, such as TS 16949 have stringent rules to ensure the separation of consultancy services and certification services.
Q. How long will certification take, and how much will it cost?
A. This will vary from organisation to organisation, depending on such factors as size, complexity of products and operations, the amount of time and resource your organisation is able to devote and so on. As a minimum, three months should be allowed for system maturation between the commencement of implementation and any attempt at certification. EPC will work with your management team to establish a workable project plan for implementation
